Barrington Eye Care is excited to offer the latest technology in order to help manage, diagnose and treat ocular diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma (among other disorders). This technology is called an OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography). It’s a non-invasive imaging test that uses light rays to take cross-section pictures of your retina. With the OCT, the doctor can see each of the distinctive layers of the retina similar to an ultrasound. This ‘mapping’ of the eye helps guide treatment strategies to properly care for your eyes.

Retinal imaging allows the doctor to get a high-resolution digital image of the posterior structures of the eye (ie macula, optic nerve, and blood vessels). This technology allows us to detect, manage, and treat ocular diseases. Finding retinal disorders early is critical in preventing serious disease progression and even vision loss. Additionally, retinal imaging provides a permanent and historical record of subtle changes that can help monitor your ocular health.
